as a student nurse, i had some white scrubs and when i graduated i dyed them brown. the dye didn't take very well- which I sort of expected - as they were cotton-polyester, but i thought i'd give it a shot. they turned out a light, murky reddish-brown. i've worn them a few times, but i really don't like the colour. but they were so comfy! so how, thought i, can i have pants that fit exactly like this, but in a different colour? of course! what could be more obvious than this? i’ll just get out the ol’ seam ripper and rip apart my old scrubs, use the pieces as pattern pieces, pin them to the new (green) fabric, cut the new pieces out, and then figure out how to put it (the green ones) back together again. how simple! :)
so i did.
here is the fabric with the "pattern" pieces pinned on. if you look closely, you can see that i've written all over them with pen, adding notches and everything (i didn't want to get lost halfway through)
on my next day off, maybe i'll make the matching top. I have enough fabric and then some. oh and the whole thing cost less than a nice scrub top would cost at an average uniform store. yippee!

That's awesome! Not that I was surprised with you innovativeness. They look so good. You may need to give lessons!
Hey, how could you tackle that when????? Remember your high school grad dress???? Nice job. Nice hair do on Facebook. Where do you get "cheaper" fabric? In Brandon at Fabricland, I'd have to pay $13-$18 a meter for the new "spring "fabric for little girls dresses.
Have you met Terri Reimer at a hair salon in Steinbach? I miss her, since I went to her in Brandon.
They look great! I also really like the sunflower top.
Have you tried any of the scrubs patterns from the big companies like this? Just curious.
Because... you know... if I EVER get around to finishing my jacket, I might want something besides experimenting with baby clothes to try sewing?
You are so creative and I love that you can make your own clothes.
Way to go Julia! I have so many projects that end up being great ideas and piles of fabric or started projects in my closet...

Nice job!
Great job! I love that you are cutting your fabric out on the kitchen floor! That's exactly where I've cut all my fabric out all these years. Never did I think you'd land up doing the same! I think that's pretty funny... It's spacious, I use the lines on the floor to guide my scissor - works great for me! Looks like it worked great for you too! Way to go
love mom
Haha... i never thought twice about cutting my fabric on the floor - i guess maybe because i always saw you do it like that. i usually do my sewing in the art room, but the table was too small for my fabric and the cement floor too cold and dusty!
i cut out the pieces for my top tonight. hopefully it will turn out as good as the bottoms.
