i had the yummiest dinner tonight. all i felt like having was waffles, so that's what i made. (i grew up in a family where waffles was a perfectly acceptable dinner menu item, but after getting married i found out that this isn't the case in all families). i made waffles, with my mom's fabulous white sauce and fresh strawberries. HOWEVER, instead of adding vanilla extract to the white sauce as per usual, i added my most favourite flavoring ever, almond extract. yummers!!(i apologize for the hazy picture, i had to use the cell phone camera and clearly i forgot to wipe the smudges off the lens first).

That looks so yummy! I LOVE waffles!
It looks like of like those stylized filters in early 90s portraits that I think were really just Vaseline smeared on the lens. But SO YUMMY! I might just make waffles for supper today.
I used to make a giant batch of waffles for Sunday dinner most weekends, and have enough left over to pop into the toaster for breakfast on Monday and Tuesday. I think I should start that tradition again!
the haze just adds to the extravagance of the white sauce!!
I'd be totally okay with waffles for supper but they became our Saturday breakfast tradition instead b/c it didn't quite seem like a supper meal for the 'man of the house' :)
The kids and I would often enjoy "Russian pancakes" when Dad was on afternoons though.
Hi Julia! Those look so delicious! I loved waffle dinners growing up! Yum!
By the way, I wish we could have visited with you and Ryan this weekend! Next time!
THAT IS MY TOTAL FAVORITE!!!! What an inspiration for dinner tonight. Is the white sauce recipe in the Mennonite cookbook? Or I guess I'll have to call my mom!

I grew up in a family where pancakes and waffles were breakfast food. Since being married, pancakes and waffles have become an any meal food- especially if I don't feel like cooking then Linc makes either one. I'm not sure about changing the white sauce flavor, though... I love the vanilla in there so much that I have to eat some everytime even though it makes me sick...
