hecla, sweet hecla

we went back to hecla this week. it was amazing. just me and my husband, relaxing and doing a whole lot of nothing at all. how to describe it? i think tolkien described it perfectly in 'the hobbit', in one of the chapters that i coincidently read to R on friday while we sat on the stoney beach by hecla village:"Now it is a strange thing, but things that are good to have and days that are good to spend are soon told about, and not much to listen to; while things that are uncomfortable, palpitating, and even gruesome, may make a good tale, and take a deal of telling anyway."
in other words, it was the most wonderful vacation, but there's not much to tell about. we brought our bikes and explored the island a bit, discovering the rocky shale cliffs that overlook the endless lake winnipeg. we read books, had late-night campfires with marshmallows, and used up all our batteries on taking pictures of us in the amazing autumn nature (yes, it was fall there already, which surprised us some). it was good for the soul, for the mind, and for the marriage.

Beautiful photos, Julia!! We were at the ocean this past weekend (unfortunately it wasn't just my hubby and me... we had a sick little toddler to run around after!!) but even there we didn't have those beautiful prairie sunsets!!!
