last night we wanted some cheap, fun entertainment. so we went to the cheap theatre to watch blades of glory. that was a huge mistake.
the ads looked funny. jon heder (napolean dynamite) and will ferrell as 2 guys who end up on a pairs figure skating team together (in case you haven't heard of it before). so it had the potential to be hilarious. i knew that it was rated PG and that surprised me because anything with will ferrell is bound to get dirty. i also knew that it would be full of jokes about the gay-ness of figure skating and 2 straight men skating together (but that i can handle. i can laugh at that, even though some reviewers have said that the only people who laugh at stuff like that are just insecure about their own sexuality).
so we went to go see it. i want to know why none of the reviews i had read ever mentioned that will ferrell's character was a sex addict. and this isn't just mentioned, no, it was the main theme behind every joke. they made it over-the-top to make it ridiculous, on purpose, of course. but it was way too explicit for me, thanks. it was disgusting. the thing is, no one even has sex in the movie, thank goodness, but it was just the constant jokes.
i really felt like walking out of it, but the terrible thing was that i couldn't. i couldn't because
i wanted to see how it ended, if and how they would win the gold medal. the ending was good, but i'm not sure it was worth it.
so in other words, don't go to see it. it's terrible. no matter how much you love jon heder, it's totally not worth it. in fact, i think i like him less now. i wish i could have my friday night back to redo it.

that is good to know about the movie. I actually thought it would be funny too because those two are hilarious, but I will save my money.
happy belated birthday by the way!
I am sorry you had to waste a Friday night on that movie. Thanks for the movie review. I had thought it would be a good one. Ok- are we going to be able to see each other this summer? We are driving to Bsvn. on the 29th. Hopefully we can get in to wpg to see Grandma and you for a day or something. let me know your sched.

Okay, I've kind of been a little to shy to voice my opinion here, but...I really liked the movie. I had low expectations going into it, but it made me laugh, a number of times. I think it had something to do with the fact that the theatre was packed out for free popcorn and drink Tuesdays and everyone was hyper and having a good time. I didn't think everything was funny, and right now I can't remember which parts I thought were funny (it has been a few months since I saw it), all I know is that it was pretty good in the end. There, I said it. I feel like I've been admitting a lot of things today (on Ryan's blog too).
