i went to valley view bible camp for a long weekend for staff training (for the day camp in july and august). there's supposed to be 6 counsellors, a director and a bunch of leaders-in-training. but most of the counsellors couldn't make it. as in, it was me and 1 guy. this was my initial impression. i didn't really know anyone at first, except i had met the director and his wife a few times (they're my age). i found myself sharing a room with 4 hyper, grade 10 girls. R was invited to come for the weekend, but he had to work so he couldn't come (he worked everyday this weekend, crazy!). let's just say i was not looking forward to the weekend.
but you know, God is amazing. i had a blast. i absolutely LOVE those girls! we had such a great time. it was weird because it felt like i was a counsellor in acabin of high school girls, but then during sessions, we were all learning how to to be leaders etc., and then were we all on the same level, but then i'd have to nudge someone awake durign the session, or tell the guys to simmer down a bit, and then we'd be hanging out and we were all friends, then we'd play a game and i'd have to ask them to pay attention as we explained the rules.....
hmmm, i felt like a youth leader! it was good. sometimes i've wondered if i've changed much since high school. if you ever wonder that, all you need to do is hang out with some grade 10 kids and then you'll know.

i'm soooo excited for day camp to start! we spent a morning talking about how to lead someone to the Lord, had a campfire every night, ate a TON of food, and spent a lot of time playing ultimate frisbee. wow, was i stiff after that! my upper body was fine, [from my physically active job now], but my legs..... and ankles and knees and toes! my toes are sore! all in all, it was a great weekend!!
