i wet my pants

i just got home from school. today i did my skills lab exam. i had to give my 'patient' an insulin injection and insert a catheter. (okay that doesn't sound very fun, but i was actually hoping to get a catheter scenario because i knew what i was doing with that one). i did okay, i passed and that's all that matters. now i can concentrate on the other 4 exams and 1 paper.

On the way home i felt adventurous. see, we used to walk through a big field to school but then they started building condos there and fenced up our path so we have to take a different route. but lately i've been noticing a beaten path through the field again and have begun to wonder where it now goes, but i'm not one for hopping fences so i've never tried it out.
well today there was a guy way ahead of me going through the field so i thought, hey, why not? so i begin my journey, stepping through the very melting snow. very melting. why did i not notice that half the field was a lake, this we will never know. as i take another step in the snow, i realize that my footprints behind me are quickly filling with water. my toe gets wet. no biggy, i think to myself. i keep going. my other foot gets wet. i am now about 1/3 of the way, so i cannot turn around. it's been a long day, i don't want to walk farther than i have to. i look up. the guy is about 2/3 across the field, and he's running. running? i think to myself. i keep going, trying to step on the trail, which is a raised path of snow, occasionally surrounded by water on both sides. my feet are now quite wet. and cold. i keep going. suddenly i realize why he was running. the highest part of the snow path ahead of me is about a inch under water.
i start to run. my feet are underwater. the snow path is slippery so i abandon it and just run straight through the water. my left foot finds a hole and i am briefly up to my knee in ice-coldness. i keep running. i make it out of the lake and have a little more to go before i can make it to safety. i reach another patch of water and just plow right through.
eventually i make it to dry land. i go around the corner and there's the guy, sitting with his shoes off, wringing out his socks. we exchange some friendly words and good laugh. i eventually find my way home through some new openings in the fence, my feet squishing all the way.

well, at least i know the field-path is open again.

What a great description! I could imagine it all the way (I was laughing so hard reading this!) Reminds me of my short cut home from the SRSS. I'm always so upset when I get to that part and see the "lake" and have to decide - up to my ankles in water or walk an extra almost half a mile. ugh.
I'm so glad your pass or fail exam is done and you passed! Way to go. You are almost half done training! Is your head exploding yet with all your knowledge? Do you ever wonder what that part of your brain used to be used for that is jam packed full of facts and info now? Was it empty? Has it been replaced with new knowledge? ???? Just wondering.

love you

Thanks Julia, I so needed a laugh and your story is hilarious! You really should start writing stories ya know, I would totally buy them and then read them to my postpartum clients or maybe the kids over in children's! Love ya,
