R and I started attending Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church last year. One of the ministries at our church is Adventurer’s Day Camp, a day camp for children that runs for 8 weeks, beginning on July 3rd. I will be working with this ministry, bringing the love of Christ to children in the community and their families. The camps are almost completely filled, and the majority of these children do not attend church (yet!). In the past, many of the campers return in the fall to the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs, and often bring their families to church.
Relationships with the children will be built through Bible lessons, storytelling, dramas, a sleepover, and daily activities at local attractions (such as the Winnipeg Zoo and a water park!). I am excited that I will be a camp leader, teaching Bible lessons and watching out for a small group of children. On top of this responsibility, I am also filling the role of Health Officer. I will be responsible for the medical aspects of camp, such as managing the camper’s medications, keeping a log of medical incidents, and handing out band-aids. It will be a lot of hard work, and I know that I will have to rely on God’s strength everyday.
I would greatly appreciate your prayers as I embark on this adventure. I am excited for this summer and I realize that it is going to be a life-changing experience for all who are involved. This is not just a summer job, it is ministry. It is an opportunity for these kids to meet Jesus, who longs for them to know Him personally.
