this beautiful weekend

we had an amazing weekend with some amazing friends. we went camping with jonathan and kimberly at hecla island. the weather was ablsolutely perfect. we discovered a beach and had it almost all to ourselves for quite a bit of the day yesterday. the sand was amazing [same sand as grand beach - which is better than waikiki beach sand!], with millions of flat rocks perfect for skipping and throwing at floating logs. these perfect rocks were endless. we decided that it was like we had a cheat code for endless supply of ammo.

the water was wonderfully warm. our supper was delicious. our neighbours were quiet. we played games until far too late into the night, but it was oh so worth it.

we all slept relatively well, despite the fear that we lingered in the backs of our minds. the people in a site near us had troubles getting their fire to stay lit and would repeatedly dump some sort of fuel onto the huge logs that they had placed on TOP of the fire pit, making it blaze HUGELY, and briefly, and then die out again. the problem was that we've had no rain for a long time, and the forest fire danger was the highest point of 'extreme danger' that the sign would allow. there were campfire time restrictions in place. and we were on an island with but one road for escape. smokey the bear would not have approved.

we highly recommend hecla island. i think it's the nicest campground that R & i have ever camped at together. and it was great to get away.
we thank God for all his blessings.
